Inspired Act of Godless Creation, July 9th, 2004
GodlessAccident.com was inspired by the article What but design of darkness to apall? from The Panda's Thumb. In particular it was inspired by the follownig comment by Intelligent Design advocate Jonathan Witt who seems to view the universe without God as ugly. "... I want to suggest that Darwinism-in
which I include its DNA-inspired mutation, neo-Darwinism-has contributed to this will to ugliness not
merely by underwriting a vision of the world as a godless accident, but also in the very way it
critiques and thereby dismisses the idea of an Author and Designer of life.
The Gods Must Be Tidy The simplest view is that the universe is godless and while it's an matter of intrepretation as to whether or not it's an accident there is no doubt that the universe actually exists now. If it didn't you wouldn't be reading this. If you are a disembodied brain or a fuel cell human in The Matrix then the universe still exists it's just that you are in a simulation of your universe within the universe. Whether or not the universe is an accident would actually require a subjective judgement by a sentient being. If that jugement is being made by a human then it's a matter of your world view. If you believe it's being made by a sentient being that created the universe then you actually believe in a godlike being and it was likely not an accident. Although it's possible that a god like being had an accident one day and accidentially created our universe. Maybe I'll start a new religion with that as the theological basis, oh, did the Church of the Sub-Genius beat me to it? Of course writing fiction, mythological theology such as the bible, or science fiction stories is easy, observing reality is much more difficult especially when you want to have your biased cultural influenced perceptions get out of the way. An objective view of reality requires that you set aside what you've been taught and look for yourself. An objective view of reality rquires, well reality doesn't require it, it's just a way of speaking, anyway, it requires that you challenge and question the thoughts that your mind, your brain, pops into your head. Many of these thoughts will be conclusions and judgements about reality. Most likely they are all wrong. Most of them have the quality and consistency of "mind poo". This applies to me as well. Milton Erickson learned to take advantage of "failing forward", a strategy where you actually include the fact that you will make mistakes into your future plans. By consciously "failing forward" you empower your ability to learn and grow leavering the process of learning from your mistakes. If we wish to survive, humans need to learn from the egregious mistakes of their "devotion" to views of reality that include superstitious notions such as super natural beings. Superstitions of various super natural beings and the conflicts between groups of humans supporting various views of super natural beings are one of the most serious threats to our very existance! If you believe in a God but not in the gods of others then you disbelieve in their gods. I simply believe in fewer gods than you. However, I do know that your belief in god, if you have such a belief, has a huge influence upon you and the way you interact with others in reality. I invite you to open your eyes to the real reality and see what is really there and only what is really there. Take the red pill and enter the real world. The real challenge is to join those of us engaged in the science based exploration of the real reality, the objective reality that exists seperate from anyone of us and our limited perceptions. Leave the superstitions of the past as history behind you and help discover the undiscovered country of the future. url
